Wallpaper trends forecast 2025
At wallpaperdirect we get to see emerging wallpaper trends as they develop. As we step into 2025, we are seeing a fascinating mix of nostalgia, modernity, and innovation. From lush textures to evocative patterns, here’s our curated guide to what’s shaping interiors this year, along with inspiration from our extensive offering.
Pantone colour of the year 2025 – Mocha Mousse
The Pantone Colour of the Year programme engages the design community and colour enthusiasts in a conversation around colour, highlighting the relationship between colour and culture. Pantone selects a colour each year that captures the global zeitgeist—the Colour of the Year express a global mood and an attitude, reflecting collective desire in the form of a single, distinct hue.
For 2025, the Pantone Color Institute selects PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a warming, brown hue imbued with richness, saying that “It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.”
In wallpaper design, Mocha Mousse offers great versatility. Its earthy tone has sophistication while maintaining an approachable, grounding quality. Perfect for both textured plains and intricate patterns, it serves as a neutral that transcends simplicity, bringing a delicious sense of luxury to any interior.

Rococo Revival
Opulence is back, but with a contemporary touch for 2025. Rococo Revival celebrates the extravagance of the late Baroque period, bringing designs with intricate flourishes, soft pastel tones, and gilded accents. This trend speaks to a renewed appreciation for detail and a touch of decadence in interior design.
Wallpaper plays a central role in bringing this aesthetic to life, with designs that feature scrolling arabesques, delicate florals, and symmetrical motifs. Modern interpretations take cues from the original Rococo palette, embracing muted blush, powder blue, and mint green, offset by shimmering metallics and the occasional pop of bold colour for a contemporary edge.
The femininity of Rococo Revival lends itself particularly well to spaces where indulgence and intimacy are key. Bathrooms swathed in intricately patterned wallpaper or dining rooms layered with soft pastel hues and golden accents evoke grandeur and romanticism.
Lean into the full effect with ornate mirrors, crystal chandeliers, and upholstered furniture in luxurious fabrics like velvet and silk.

Fabric-inspired walls
One of the strengths of fabric-inspired wallpapers lies in their versatility. Drawing inspiration from textiles, wallpapers that mimic the look and feel of grasscloth, woven silks, and faux linens transform walls and invite homeowners and designers to engage with walls on a sensory level. Wallpapers that are either crafted from natural fibres like sisal or jute, or created to mimic these organic textures complement both contemporary and traditional styles. Woven silk-inspired designs, with their delicate sheen and subtle striations, have a particular elegance, making them ideal for formal settings such as dining rooms or bedrooms, whilst faux linens offer refined simplicity, creating tailored backdrops that work seamlessly in transitional spaces such as halls and corridors.
Modern Surrealism
Surrealist-inspired interiors bring fantasy to life. This trend celebrates the unexpected; gravity-defying florals, playful creatures, and dreamlike designs. It’s perfect for those who want an unexpected element of curiosity in their spaces, working particularly in living rooms or creative workspaces.
The mural shown above, featuring flamingos perched on impossibly long legs, delicately balanced among the clouds, is a design that feels both playful and thought-provoking, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary and creating a sense of otherworldly wonder.

Playful Pastels
Pastels bring lightness and softness to interiors and in 2025 they are set to take on a fresh, playful energy. Soft hues such as blush pinks, mint greens, butter yellows, and powder blues, are paired with charming patterns to bring a sense of fun and nostalgia.
While pastels have traditionally been reserved for nurseries and children’s rooms, 2025’s playful pastels are bold enough to be used in every part of the home. In bedrooms, they still provide a serene vibe, but create a new kind of retreat that feels fun, with a youthful energy. Kitchens too can be transformed by pastel wallpapers with lighthearted designs, turning these spaces into a cheerful hub for cooking and socialising.

Castlecore
In a world of fast-paced technology and minimalism, Castlecore offers a sanctuary steeped in history, craftsmanship, and storytelling. It speaks to our desire for escapism and connection to the past, inviting a sense of romance, stability, and tradition.
While Castlecore celebrates the aesthetics of the past, it remains grounded in modern sensibilities. Interiors are defined by deep, moody tones such as forest green, burgundy, charcoal, and gold. These colours evoke mystery and drama while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Accents of metallics, particularly in gold or bronze, add a touch of regal sophistication. Be inspired by nostalgia and the allure of old-world opulence and draw inspiration from the architecture, textures, and romanticism of historic castles. From grand tapestries to stone-inspired finishes, Castlecore invites us to embrace a touch of medieval majesty in our living spaces.

Monochromatic Drama
Black and White wallpapers create a striking impact, especially when it comes to creating dramatic focal points. This captivating zebra wall mural is a bold and stylish choice, bringing a wild elegance into the space.
The scale of the design adds a sense of grandeur, while the animal-inspired pattern introduces an exotic edge to the space. The essence of this style lies in its striking contrasts and paired with clean-lined furniture and minimal accessories, the mural becomes the star of the show, giving the room an elevated, gallery-like atmosphere.

Below: Grasslands – the New Botanical
Wallpaper design is taking a graceful turn towards a New Botanical, drawing inspiration from open meadows and wild grasses, for a more rustic take on botanical trends. It celebrates a softer, organic aesthetic, embracing the unrefined beauty of grasslands and delicate flora.
This look features patterns inspired by sweeping fields of tall grasses, wildflowers, and seed heads. These designs range from delicate line drawings in soft neutrals to bold, oversized motifs that make a statement. Some interpretations take a painterly approach, capturing the fluid movement of meadow grasses in the wind, while others opt for a more graphic, abstract style, perfect for modern interiors.

I aspire to have a conservatory with this Countrycore styling. Light, airy and filled with plants and the time to enjoy. Not too perfect that I can’t make a bit of a mess but the curtains elevate the room to keep it looking good and to encourage me to tidy up!

Wallpapered Ceilings
I’m completely in love with the idea of wallpapered ceilings! Ceilings are often overlooked, but adding wallpaper can transform them into a striking feature that brings a whole new dimension to a space. I’m especially drawn to cloud-themed wallpapers, creating the illusion of an endless sky overhead!

Timeless Textures
Though a simple idea, I will be adding a textured effect wallpaper to my interior, seen here in the Borastapeter Shades collection. Adding a textured effect plain wallpaper where you would typically paint the walls creates a depth and comfort to your interior, pairing perfectly with my soft furnishings and statement art I have on display – Whilst also creating a seamless effect to cover any wall imperfections.

Eclectic Maximalism
I predict 2025 will be the year of yes, and! Yes, to bold wallpaper and yes to an even bolder fabric. Why limit yourself to one pattern in a space if there are multiple you love and are struggling to choose between, be eclectic in your space. For a cohesive maximalist look use wallpaper and fabrics from the same launch so they follow the same design story and colour palette. My dream would be to transform my spare room into an eclectic office, an inspiring and fun space to encourage creativity and to subvert office décor expectations.

Cottagecore
In 2025, I predict that cottagecore will still be going strong as an interior trend. Picture warm, light and earthy colours, vintage furniture, and handmade touches that bring a sense of comfort and simplicity, add plenty of soft furnishings and personal touches – what’s not to love!
I’d like to use this trend in my home office, using a ditsy floral print to bring the calmness and beauty of the countryside indoors.
