Let’s talk about guest bedrooms…. This absolutely perfect room is where we dream of waking up on Christmas morning! Spare bedrooms provide a wonderful opportunity to do something bold and a little luxurious, allowing us to recreate the extravagance of a hotel experience. For your guests staying over the Holidays remember to add the little details, alongside the fluffy towels and scented soaps: a stocking filled with sweet treats, a garland above the bed and, if you are in the UK, perhaps an extra blanket and thick bathrobe.
Plaid walls are a preppy classic at any time of the year and tartan design has a long association with Christmas decoration too. This tradition hails from the Scots who celebrated the winter solstice with Yule festivities, which covered a period of days and brought light to the long, dark winter time. What could be more Yule-like than sitting beside a tartan wallpaper surround fireplace? (Perhaps with a Scotch too, seeing as it’s Christmas….!)
