Our GPS system decided to pack up on us the other day, just before we have to find a secluded holiday cottage in Devon which will be our retreat for the next week. Our GPS system decided to pack up on us the other day, just before we have to find a secluded holiday cottage in Devon which will be our retreat for the next week. So you can imagine my horror when my other half produced the road atlas for me to navigate by. But what a discovery. Far from a spaghetti jumble of tangled lines, for the first time I’m growing to love an interwoven tree of intricate connections between the exotic names like Bovey Tracey, Chipping Sodbury and Nether Wallop that will take us to the promised land of holiday. And, inevitably, I’ve progressed onto atlases. The pink swathes of the former British Empire, long forgotten country names like Abyssinia and Ceylon, the scary enormousness of the oceans. What better to cover a wall or two with? Fantastic for the loo! Going places!
