Trend #1  English Heritage Design

We are noticing a real love affair in interior styling for English heritage design, where some of the most beautiful and timeless wallpaper designs, in a stunning range of colours, are the hero back-drop for styling both classic and modern contemporary interiors alike. Whether its origins are in the 18th, 19th or 20th Century, Heritage design is based on original patterns, uncovered in historic buildings and archives and brought back to life, usually with a new range of colourways.

Our latest collaboration with Morris & Co. is a newly updated and exclusive second Edit, featuring the best-loved treasures from the heritage icon. Now with an expanded selection of favourite Morris & Co. patterns, enjoy these newly recoloured wallpapers adapted from archival documents stretching back to the 19th century.

Trend #2  Contemporary Trompe L’oiel

One of the biggest stories in wallpaper trends for 2024 is Contemporary Trompe L’oiel, a French phrase meaning ‘deceives the eye’, it is used to describe artwork that creates the illusion of a real object or a scene as a three-dimensional vista.

‘Carved Panel’ depicts  traditional wood graining techniques to envisage a high-relief Victorian Gothic style carved panel. Ideal for adding character and a bit of quirk to any room, this design is perfectly styled with natural textures.

Trend #3  Stripes

Stripes are quite possibly one of the most versatile patterns around and we are noticing stripes everywhere right now, whether in fashion, interiors or upholstery trends.

As an interior investment, stripes may be having a moment, but the wonderful thing about them is that they never really go out of style, their cool simplicity and versatility will always uplift any interior.

Trend #4  Quiet Luxury

Quiet Luxury celebrates the power of subtlety and the beauty of restraint, focusing on investing in minimalist pieces of the highest quality with timeless appeal.

The trend reflects the desire for people to create spaces at home that are both quiet and calm, but also luxurious and inviting. The trend is typified by soft, muted colour schemes and high-quality, sustainable materials. The intent is to create an interior that is serenely calming, free from clutter and with a pared-back, high-quality aesthetic.

Trend #5  New and emerging designers

At wallpaperdirect we are delighted to champion and showcase the emerging creative talents that are shaping the future of wallpaper and fabric design.

We are always on the look-out for talented artists whom we can support with our own Exclusive collaborations, most recently these have included Isabelle Boxall (who also worked on this gorgeous design for rising-star brand Brand McKenzie) and Kerry Caffyn. We also love the ‘Rest Time’ collaboration between Spanish wallpaper brand Coordonné and the renowned Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.

Trend#6  Colourful Kids’ rooms

Decorating a child’s bedroom perhaps offers the opportunity to be a little more creative than for other rooms in the home and in 2024 we are much more likely to be bold with colour for the kids! We are noticing a real trend for using non-traditional kids’ wallpapers, as shown in the gorgeous bedroom above. This design choice adds unique personality and style whilst adding longevity to the decoration as the wallpaper cannot be ‘outgrown’.

Trend #7  Pantone Colour of the year: Peach Fuzz

Each December we eagerly await the declaration of Pantone’s Colour of the Year, which sets out to define the moods and modes of fashion, interiors and lifestyle for the upcoming twelve months. It is decided upon by a team of global art and design experts, and the proclamation for 2024 is…… Peach Fuzz.

On declaring the trend-winning colour, Leatrice Eiseman (Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute) described the colour as  ‘a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.’  She continued ‘PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a colour radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.’

Trend #8 Folk Style

Characterised by its handcrafted aesthetic and  whimsical motifs, this captivating trend has been given a modern re-vamp and we predict that we’ll be seeing even more of the eclectic interior style in 2024.

Storytelling is at the heart of the whimsical designs, with enchanting patterns depicting intricate flora and fantastical creatures that promise to whisk you away into a magical fairytale. Perfect for creating a cosy atmosphere with up-cycled and homespun accessories.

Tips from the Team – our top picks for a 2024 update…

Zen by Sandberg

Introducing intricate and subtle pattern into my home alongside bold print and muted colours is my design goal for the new year. A busy and entwining pattern for my entryway was the perfect choice, and Zen by Sandberg was the perfect addition to my interior.  Delicate and illustrative swirls in an indigo blue surface print against a neutral ground adds just the right amount of pattern without interrupting hanging artwork or overwhelming the space.

Saddle Notch by Dado x Studio HÁM

I can’t resist the nostalgic designs from the Studio HÁM collaboration with Dado Atelier. Saddle Notch is a quirky and cosy take on the stripe trend. I’m going for a “retro revival” aesthetic at home, and this design is perfect.

Stockholm Forest by Metroplitan Stories

I’m planning to add this one to my living room…. I love the calm, tranquil vibe of ‘forest bathing’ in my own home – combined here with a Scandi feeling too and the blue/green teal is just perfect for relaxing.

I’ve used Metropolitan Stories wallpapers before and the amazing quality of the product at this affordable price is also another big plus.

Magnus by Sandberg

In 2024, I’m hoping to decorate my home office using Magnus in the Burgundy colourway because I feel like Terracotta is a trending colour that is here to stay, and I love it! Earth tones are the colour palette of my house, so, this wallpaper would be perfect in my home. I’ve always loved the idea of putting stripes in my office, as it is shared space, and I find it a genderless, not too busy, and a formal background for any meeting. Sandberg is a brand that I fell in love with as soon as I started at wallpaperdirect, the Scandi designs and colours are so cosy and homely to me.
